Bistrot des Vosges

My TV was not working, so I called Pierre (Chris,) my TV repairman. After 5  minutes the problem was solved, and it being a bitterly cold day I offered to introduce him to the pleasure of cafe/calva–espresso with a calvados on the side. Although a mere two blocks from my apartment, I had never been inside the Bistrot des Vosges. The owners are from the Aveyron and our barmaid was very welcoming, as was the calva, so much so, that we opted for a second, no café required.

Nibbling on a pre-rehearsal sandwich was a dancer from the Paris Ballet. Apparently she and her fellow ballerinas like to pop in before noon.

I enjoyed the ambiance so I came back for lunch-a 300 gram Aubrac entrecote with hand cut fries and a glass of marsillac.

Nothing complicated-just good beef, inexpensive, drinkable wine and conviviality-I wasn’t seated 2 minutes before being engaged in conversation with the adjacent couple-a New York born, retired French cop and his sister.

Just a block from the Places des Vosges this is a good spot for un verre at the bar or a good, quick lunch.
